Staff Spotlight: The Crafty Trio

In a world filled with technology, some of the greatest joys can still be found offline. Enter scrapbooking and this crafty trio of BHFCU besties. Meet Carrie, Jessica, and Jennifer!

By day, these three are in the thick of our backend operations on our Enterprise Applications and Project Management & Improvements teams. And in their free time, they channel their creativity into paper crafting, turning simple materials into something special. Carrie, Jessica, and Jennifer all discovered paper crafting at different life stages, some as early as high school, and others only after they met each other, with one common thread: crafting is better with friends.

“For me, scrapbooking started in 2001 when my sister-in-law invited me to a card-making class with stamps. I was hooked!” shared Carrie. “Before long, paper crafting turned into a way to create for my church, and that’s when Jessica and I teamed up.”

Having been friends with Carrie and Jessica for years, the duo convinced Jennifer to make it a paper crafting trio a couple of years ago. When asked what they love most, they emphasized the joy of creating for others, recording memories, and building and strengthening friendships.

This crafty trio can be found at workshops, meet-ups, and retreats, getting creative. Jennifer looks forward to her annual quilting weekend, which includes paper crafts, and Jessica will always take advantage of a class to add to her skill set. When she first started the hobby, Carrie even made it to overnight scrapbooking retreats.

“I’d seen year-long scrapbook projects that looked like a lot of fun, so last summer, I suggested the three of us work on it together,” Jessica explained. “The three of us have spent several weekends creating together.”

The year-long project is powered by Stampin’ Up templates, a tool that makes it easier for creativity to flow. (Are you as clueless as we were? You should look it up, it’s pretty cool!) Speaking of tools and supplies, we hear Jessica is the one to go to for fun toys like stamps and die-cut sets. Paired with Carrie’s Fiskars cutter, it’s no wonder this crew pumps out high-quality pieces!

The trio has started a December tradition of making valentines for veterans, enlisting the support of crafters in their church network to spread even more love and kindness. Another recent crowd-pleasing craft was a refillable Advent calendar. The sky's the limit with what you can make from a simple piece of paper.

“We’ve been friends at work for years, but we’ve got paper crafting to thank for bringing us together outside of work and keeping our friendship so strong,” the crafty trio agreed.
