Staff Spotlight: The Photographer
Where a passion for capturing a moment and a knack for framing the shot meet, that’s where you’ll find this photographer. Helping members as a Member Experience Consultant by day, she’s chasing the perfect light in her free time. Meet Joslyn! Those early Nikon roots stuck. After shooting with Sony and Canon, Joslyn always finds herself going back to Nikon. It helps that any lens made after WW2 is interchangeable with their camera bodies, making them extremely versatile.“A friend recognized my eye for shooting and bought me my first digital Nikon in 2014. It was a game changer,” Joslyn shared. “It wasn’t until later that I found out my dad was pretty passionate about photography in his younger years, so maybe it’s genetic?!”
Once her sister taught her the basics of shooting in manual, Joslyn became addicted to the rush of dialing in her own settings, while shooting wildlife in motion, especially birds. With the right camera and settings Joslyn was even able to capture epic photos in the nearly pitch-black Fantastic Caverns of Springfield, Missouri. (Never mind the other tour goers who probably thought she was crazy!)
Joslyn continued shooting fully self-taught until attending college courses at age 25. Having a firm grasp of the basics, these classes allowed her to dive into the more nuanced elements of photography, such as the importance of content and how to start conversations through her art.

As Joslyn continued to hone her craft, landscapes, wildlife, and abandoned structures emerged as her focus. So much so that her photograph of a dilapidated, wooden grain elevator is hanging in the Department of Revenue conference room in the Montana Capitol. But her favorites are any image taken during her visits to the Oregon coastline.
“I love capturing and sharing the beauty of the world as I see it,” Joslyn explained. “No sunset or sunrise is ever the same. Getting to freeze those moments in time is a fascinating concept.”
