2024 School Support Drive Succes
October 10, 2024
With the help of nominations from community members, we made a significant impact by donating $43,750 to a combination of 29 classrooms, schools, and educational organizations.
Our annual School Support Drive provides schools and organizations with funds to help make the school year that much more successful. This year, the annual effort continued evolving by calling on community members to nominate schools and organizations in need. Over 120 nominations detailed needs spanning playground equipment, meal and travel vouchers, mechanics programs, and more.
“This year’s new format put power in the hands of our communities,” emphasized Heidi Bulman, Senior Community Development Officer. “Their nominations were instrumental in identifying the unique needs of schools and organizations, enabling us to provide the necessary support to turn those dreams into a reality.”
We were able to spread the love to 25 schools and organizations with donations ranging from $500 - $5,000, depending on the need. In addition, we wanted to provide support at the classroom level this year. A call for teacher wish lists led to four lucky classrooms receiving $500 worth of the goodies they were after.
“There’s nothing like walking into a classroom of fifth graders full of pure excitement,” Heidi shared. “Connecting with teachers and students on a classroom level is an exciting new initiative we look forward to growing.”
While an evolution was needed, we didn’t want to leave previous partner businesses behind either. Our team worked to pair businesses with educational organizations with supply needs. The matching program allowed the businesses to continue the fun of collecting supplies and the joy of helping local students.
Our School Support Drive relies on donations from members, the community, and businesses across the state. And our staff gets in on the fun, too. They help raise funds through an online auction, with many items donated by area businesses.
Donations to the Drive are made through the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
