BHFCU Gives: Helping Animals in Q2
Our communities are at the heart of everything we do. And our Community Action Team allows our employees to connect with non-profit organizations, giving back to their communities in meaningful ways. This year, we’re consolidating our efforts, focusing our giving in a big way quarterly. What is Raising for Rescues?
The Raising for Rescues Supply Drive has been a cornerstone of CAT for nearly a decade. So, we knew we absolutely wanted to continue the tradition, and we heard the same from our staff. We started the year by asking employees to tell us the organizations they wanted to support. Always popular, many animal rescues and support organizations appeared on the list.
Who is Benefiting?
All told, we landed on 17 rescues and support organizations to benefit from the 2025 Raising for Rescues Supply Drive. This year’s beneficiaries included Wakpa Waste’ Animal Shelter in Eagle Butte; the Oglala Pet Project in Kyle; PAWS in Pierre; Yellowstone Animal Shelter in Billings; Sioux Falls Humane Society, Almost Home Canine Rescue, and Big Paws Canine Foundation in Sioux Falls; and STARS, Battle Mountain Humane Society, West River Spay & Neuter Coalition, the Humane Society of the Black Hills, A Place for Meow Rescue, Border Paws, Nuisance Farm & Sanctuary, Hobo’s Healing Heart, Sturgis Animal Shelter, and Western Hills Humane Society in the Black Hills.

Did You Say Partnership?
From food and treats to toys and blankets, we successfully collected supplies, helping to address the various needs of organizations across the communities we serve. But we couldn’t do it alone!
The drive’s success would not have been possible without the generous support of several businesses that helped broaden the reach. Special thanks to Healthy Paws, Pet Pantry, Black Hills Bark Avenue, and Barks & Bubbles in Rapid City; Woofers in Sturgis; Lake Sharpe Pet Resort in Pierre; and Runnings and Roxi & Co. in Sioux Falls. These businesses went above and beyond!
Why do we do it?
Improving lives doesn’t just mean human ones! We love being able to help improve the lives of our furry friends. From helping finish a shelter’s outdoor kennels and expanding stalls for senior pigs to keeping pets in their loving homes when finances are tight and providing thousands of free and low-cost spay and neuter services, the funds are already being put to good use. It’s a small thank you for the critical work that rescues, shelters, and support organizations do day in and day out.
We’ll Let the Numbers Do the Talking…
We’re blown away by the engagement of our employees and the support of our community. Here’s where the donations landed.
- 17 animal rescues supported
- 1,302 items collected
- $17,000 donated (employee donations matched by BHFCU!)
