Improving lives in our communities

The Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund was formed in 2010 with the mission of supporting charitable causes in communities across South Dakota. As the nonprofit arm of Black Hills Federal Credit Union, the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization and recognized as a tax-exempt public charity by the IRS. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Ways We Give Back

  • BHFCU's employee-led Community Action Team contributes, volunteers, and organizes fundraisers for more than 60 charitable organizations each year.
  • Through a weekly Jeans Day Program, BHFCU employees donate money to various causes supported by the Charitable Fund.
  • BHFCU's Annual School Supply Drive has been collecting, sorting, and distributing more than to local students in need since 1997.
  • With the on-going support of BHFCU's members, volunteers, and staff, as well as the generosity of community and business partners, we continue to improve lives in South Dakota.

Sewing Masks for Rapid City Area Schools
In partnership with Masks for Rapid City, crafty BHFCU employees put their skills to work sewing nearly 300 masks for Rapid City Area Schools elementary students. We were happy to contribute to the effort that amounted in over 14,000 masks for area kids. Masks for Rapid City is a community-led initiative coordinated by Western Dakota Tech in collaboration with the West River Area Health Education Center.

Donation Towards Life-saving Service in Wall
BHFCU recently presented a $1,000 check to the Wall Ambulance Service to go towards the purchase of a new cardiac monitor. The only cardiac monitor in the Wall Ambulance fleet will be obsolete by year-end, making the need to raise funds for a new monitor critical. Eastern Pennington County Ambulance District, which operates as Wall Ambulance Service, serves a rural area nearly one hour from the closest cardiac facility.

Supporting Youth in Pierre
BHFCU recently donated $1,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area. The “Would you open the door for them?” campaign helps support the organization’s yearly budget. The Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area’s mission is to enable all youth, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. They share BHFCU’s goal of improving the lives of youth in the Capital area.

Custer & Rapid City YMCA Scholarship Program Support
BHFCU proudly donated $200 to the Custer YMCA and $600 to the Rapid City YMCA, benefiting the annual youth scholarship campaign. Scholarships will help provide memberships, childcare, and various programs including, soccer, archery, and use of the gym and pool. The YMCA is dedicated to serving communities through programs that provide a positive, safe, and supported environment.

Donation to the American Heart Association of South Dakota
Each Friday, BHFCU employees have the option to wear jeans and support a good cause. In September, our Jeans Day raised $600 for the American Heart Association of South Dakota. We are proud to support the nation's oldest and largest organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke.
