People Helping People - May 2022

At BHFCU, our commitment to improving lives in the communities we serve is as strong as ever. In May, our team found ways to do positive things across South Dakota. Learn more below.

Readiatrics Book Drive
The Readiatrics Book Drive ended this month. We’re excited to share that our staff and members donated nearly 1,600 books this year, plus $700! The cash donation will be used to provide culturally relevant books across the state. All books will be donated to children receiving services from the South Dakota Department of Health.

Dress for Success Clothing Drive
Our Movers for Moms clothing drive in Sioux Falls and Rapid City was a huge success! And the best part, we are only one piece of the even bigger effort helping set women up for success. This was the first year we took the effort statewide, and we can’t wait to do it again.

Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area Donation
Our Pierre team recently presented a $1,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area for their Annual Great Futures Campaign! This program provides snacks and activities for kids after school and throughout the summer.

Arbor Day Campaign Results
The results are in! More than 1,000 members signed up for eStatements during our Arbor Day campaign. Those opt-ins turned into a $1,200 donation to Black Hills Forest Service, equating to more than 1,400 trees planted, reforesting 3.5 acres in the southern Black Hills!

Sioux Falls Humane Society Volunteering
Several of our Sioux Falls crew spent time volunteering at the Humane Society. From cleaning and organizing supplies to playing with puppies and kittens, it was time well spent!

Monument Health Children’s Miracle Network Donation Match
During the Dakota Credit Union Association’s Annual Summit, we matched Give Back project donations, benefiting Monument Health's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. We matched the project's $3,265 raised, bringing the total to $7,250!

Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build Day
Earlier this month, four female BHFCU staff participated in the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity Women's Build Day! A crew made up of all women worked hard to help build a Rapid City family's home. Along with their elbow grease, our group graciously donated their 22 hours of work toward the home recipient's required hours.

Raising for Rescues Pet Supply Drive
Our Raising for Rescues CAT project was a huge success! Thanks to generous donations from staff and members, we raised $1,820 and collected a pickup truck worth of supplies for animal rescues across South Dakota!

Adopt-A-Mile Clean-Up Events
Members of our Rapid City and Pierre teams spent time making our communities cleaner this month. Both groups took part in Adopt-A-Mile clean-up events. We enjoy doing our part to help keep South Dakota beautiful!
