People Helping People - July 2022

At BHFCU, our commitment to improving lives in the communities we serve is as strong as ever. In July, our team found ways to do positive things across South Dakota. Learn more below.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills Donation
Who doesn't love a nice basket raffle for a good cause? The answer from our staff was a resounding; we love 'em! Thanks to our team, we recently raised $1,500 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills through a Jeans Day and a good old-fashioned raffle prize of summer camping goodies.

School Supply Drive Caramel Roll Sale
We partnered with The Colonial House to raise money for our School Supply Drive. In mid-July, we set up shop in the parking lot of our Downtown Rapid City location with 240 Colonial House caramel rolls for sale with a suggested donation of $5. They went like hot cakes selling out in under two hours and raising over $1,300! All proceeds will be used to purchase school supplies for South Dakota students who need them.

Christmas in July Food & Supply Drive
During our Christmas in July Food & Supply Drive, BHFCU staff collected over 100 items for area organizations like WAVI, the HOPE Center, and the VFW. Staff also raised $600 through a Jeans Day fundraiser, which was distributed among the organizations.

Habitat for Humanity Build & Donation
Our BHFCU staff turned build crew again this month, lending a hand at a Habitat for Humanity build in Rapid City. And they also presented the organization with $600 raised through our Jeans Day program! Special shout out to Becky B. and Kelsey O. for organizing this volunteer effort. Great work, team!
