People Helping People - April 2022

At BHFCU, our commitment to improving lives in the communities we serve is as strong as ever. In April, our team found ways to do positive things across South Dakota. Learn more below.

Youth & Family Services Kids Fair Volunteering
In early April, 20 BHFCU staff members and their families volunteered at Youth & Family Services' annual Kids Fair in Rapid City! The Kids Fair acts as a fundraiser helping to support the programs YFS provides to over 14,000 families in western South Dakota each year. We were also excited to donate $600 to the organization.

VIBZ Scholarships Awarded
Congratulations are in order for BHFCU’s ten 2022 VIBZ scholarship recipients! Each student will receive a $2,000 scholarship for the upcoming academic year for demonstrating outstanding commitment, leadership, community service, and academic achievement.

St. Francis House Volunteering
Several of our Sioux Falls staff were back at the St. Francis House this month, volunteering to serve meals to nearly 120 people! We enjoy giving back to organizations like the St. Francis House, who do so much for our communities!

Wall Country Cupboard Donation
We are happy to support the Wall Country Cupboard Spring Food Drive once again. With a dozen famous Wall Drug donuts on the line, our staff really showed up and raised $600! The Country Cupboard serves a large area around Wall, encompassing many communities. They rely on volunteers and donations to provide food to those in need.

Rapid City Area Coffee Donation
During an early spring South Dakota cold snap, we made the rounds to the Cornerstone Rescue Mission and the HOPE Center to donate 50 boxes of coffee!

Readiatrics Book Drive
Our partnership with the Readiatrics Book Drive continued this month. From March 7 through May 15, we are collecting new and gently used children's books in all our west river locations. Books will be donated to children receiving services from the South Dakota Department of Health.

Dress for Success Clothing Drive
In April, we continued collections for EmBe’s Dress for Success clothing drive. From mid-March through May 3, our Sioux Falls and Rapid City MSCs are collection locations for gently used women’s clothing, benefiting area women.
