BHFCU Gives Back - May 2023

At BHFCU, our commitment to improving lives in the communities we serve is as strong as ever. Our team found ways to do positive things across South Dakota in May. Learn more below.

Focusing on Kids & Families
In 2023, we are refocusing our staff-led charitable giving program, the Community Action Team (CAT.) Each month follows a theme with multiple organizations benefiting. In May, we focused on Kids & Families, providing aid to four organizations across South Dakota and Montana. Check out what we accomplished!

Who We Supported
From Sioux Falls to Billings, we supported: Special Olympics of South Dakota, Youth and Family Services, EmBe’s Dress for Success Sioux Falls, and Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana.

Fundraising & Clothing Drive Results
Through our bi-weekly giving campaign and additional donations, we raised $3,162! Donations were split between Special Olympics of South Dakota, Youth and Family Services, and EmBe’s Dress for Success Sioux Falls. Additionally, we held a women’s professional clothes drive, donating 150+ items in Rapid City and 100+ items to EmBe’s Dress for Success Sioux Falls.

Throwing Disc to Fund a Wish
We were thrilled to get outside to support Make-A-Wish South Dakota & Montana. Our very own Terry B. puts on a full-scale annual Disc Golf tournament to raise money for the organization. This he got BHFCU staff in on the fun by setting up a nine-hole course at our corporate office! Altogether, 22 players participated, and $522 was raised for Make-A-Wish! This made up a small part of Terry’s $5,100 donation. Way to go, Terry!

Volunteering Our Time
Between slinging discs, assembling 100 Playdough Kits, serving meals to those in need, and volunteering at swim and track meets, our staff volunteered 41 hours of their time!

BHFCU & Salesforce Help Habitat for Humanity
Salesforce nominated the credit union to be their volunteer partner for Spring 2023. This month 20 BHFCU and Salesforce team members spent the day volunteering at the site of three Habitat for Humanity home builds in Sturgis, South Dakota. The group spent six hours clearing trees, disassembling a shed, spreading gravel, moving dirt, and painting interior walls. Altogether, the group volunteered 120 hours of their time.
