BHFCU Gives Back - December 2023

At BHFCU, our commitment to improving lives in the communities we serve is as strong as ever. Learn more about the positive things our team accomplished in December.

Helping at the Holidays
In 2023, we are refocusing our staff-led charitable giving program, the Community Action Team (CAT.) Each month follows a theme with multiple organizations benefiting. In December, we focused on supporting organizations that help those who need it during the holidays. Check out what we accomplished!

Who We Supported
This month, we supported the Black Hills Salvation Army Angel Tree Toy Drive, Sioux Falls Cares, and Meals on Wheels Western South Dakota. BHFCU staff raised a mix of monetary and physical donations totaling $7,690 for the organizations!

Bringing Christmas Cheer to Kids
From Sioux Falls to the Black Hills, we wanted to ensure kids had the best Christmas possible. Our Sioux Falls team partnered with Sioux Falls Cares to deliver five families’ worth of gifts. Altogether, they donated 17.5 hours of their time. An additional $1,250 was raised by staff and donated to the organization.

In the Black Hills, employees teamed up to fulfill 181 Angel Tree wishes worth $2,400 for the Salvation Army. An additional $500 was raised by staff to purchase more gifts for the over 2,200 kids in need this Christmas.

Helping Feed Elderly South Dakotans
We participated in the Gingerbread Man Program put on by Meals on Wheels Western South Dakota. Staff and members raised $2,290 to help feed elderly seniors in our communities. An additional $1,250 was raised by staff and donated to the organization.

Supporting the United Way
Each year, we support United Way charities across our field of membership. This year, we donated $1,000 to the Sioux Empire United Way. In the Black Hills region, a combination of individual pledges and employee and corporate donations contributed to our total donation of $13,600.

Year-end Donations
To end the year, BHFCU donated $27,000 to 18 organizations, including the American Red Cross, the Black Hills Children’s Home, Black Hills Works Foundation, the Club for Boys – Rapid City, Consumer Credit Counseling, Cornerstone Rescue Mission, Feeding South Dakota, Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society of the Black Hills, Meal on Wheels, the Northern Hills Training Center, Pennington County Search and Rescue, the Salvation Army, the Sturgis VFD, Wellspring Services, WAVI, Youth and Family Services, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
