BHFCU Gives Back - April 2024
At BHFCU, our commitment to improving lives in the communities we serve is as strong as ever. Learn more about the positive things our team accomplished in April.
Supporting Animals – Raising for Rescues Supply Drive
Each month, our staff-led charitable giving program, the Community Action Team (CAT), focuses on supporting organizations that share common goals. In April, we focused on organizations that help animals. Check out what we accomplished!
Collecting Supplies & Raising Funds
The Raising for Rescues Supply Drive is unique. Usually, our CAT projects are completely supported by staff. But this month, we teamed up with our communities in a big way. With nearly 40 drop-off locations, including BHFCU branches and partner businesses, members of our community stepped up big time to help animals who need it. Together, we raised $7,650 and collected 1,275+ supplies (valued at over $8,100!) for rescues this year!
Who We Supported
This month, we supported 18 animal support organizations and rescues from Sioux Falls to Billings. Organizations included:
- Black Hills: Black Hills Humane Society, A Place for Meow, West River Spay Neuter Coalition, Border Paws, Happy Tails Haven, Western Hills Humane Society, Hobo’s Healing Heart, Sturgis Animal Shelter, Twin Cities Shelter, Battle Mountain Humane Society, and STARS Rescue.
- Sioux Falls: Almost Home Canine Rescue, B-Squad Dog Rescue, and the Sioux Empire Pit Rescue.
- We also raised for the Oglala Pet Project in Kyle, Wakpa Waste’ in Eagle Butte, PAWS Rescue in Pierre, and the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter in Billings.
Shout Out to Our Partner Businesses
In addition to our locations being drop-off points, we partner with 19 businesses across our service area to help us promote the fundraiser and act as drop-off points. We couldn’t have accomplished this without them! Partner business included:
- Billings: All Pets, Tractor Supply, Moore Lane Vet, Exotic Pets, Bark Park, Paw and Claws, Paws and Reflect, MariMint, and Grand Avenue Vet Hospital.
- Rapid City: Black Hills Bark Avenue, All Pro Pet Spa, All Creatures Veterinary Clinic, Bark and Bubbles, Healthy Paws, Pet Smart, and Fleet Farm.
- Sioux Falls: Pawsabilities, Pet Wants
- Sturgis: Woofers
Special thanks to the following businesses for supply donations: Western Ranch Supply and Pet Smart in Billings and Runnings in Rapid City.
Recognizing Prize Donors
We sweetened the deal with four door-busting prize packages to boost donations internally! None of this would have been possible without the contributions of the following donors: Just Be Massage, Halon Salon, Sirius Canine Training, All Creatures Veterinary Hospital, Black Hills Groom Room, Pet Smart, Cindy’s K9 Treats, Erica Lane Photography, Ryedoodle Boarding and Training, and Black Hills Bark Avenue.
Helping Exercise Dozens of Dogs
Seven BHFCU staff members volunteered 14 hours at the Black Hills Humane Society. Following a short orientation, they efficiently walked and socialized 24 dogs and even made time to play with several cats.
Check back next month to see what our crew accomplished in May!
