A South Dakota Siouxper Hero
At Black Hills Federal Credit Union, our mission is to improve lives. That mission is brought to life every day by our nearly 350 staff members. That’s why it came as no surprise when the Sioux Falls City Council honored our own April Meyerink with their Siouxper Hero Award.April accepted the award at a socially distanced City Council meeting on December 8. The award recognizes April as someone who takes an active role in being a positive force in the Sioux Falls community. The nomination was very unexpected for April.
“I was humbled and truly shocked when I learned of my nomination,” April said. “There are so many people who do so much for the community; to be held in their company is an honor.”
A South Dakota native, April is dedicated to her state and her community. Having been very active with the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce as an ambassador, April has always enjoyed making positive changes in the community. When a development position with BHFCU opened up three years ago, it was the perfect opportunity. Already well connected with area nonprofits and the chamber, it happened at the exact right time.
As a Business Development Officer at BHFCU, she explains her job as a dream come true. Her role allows her to intertwine what she does for her profession with how she likes to spend her free time volunteering and working with nonprofits.
“In my role, I have the opportunity to meet with community members and expand the work that BHFCU does to support nonprofits in the Sioux Falls area,” April explained. “Being able to make a difference to businesses and community members is a heartwarming and humbling experience. It makes me truly appreciative of what I have.”
It comes as no surprise that among her activities, April serves on three boards and an advisory committee and can be seen volunteering at many community events. She instills that same sense of giving in her daughter, who can be found alongside her at many volunteer opportunities.
When she’s not working for her community, April enjoys painting. She has had a passion for art since she was in high school. She uses that passion to make one-of-a-kind pieces for her home and friends.
From all of us at Black Hills Federal Credit Union, congratulations to April Meyerink for the well-deserved Sioux Falls City Council Siouxper Hero Award.
