Protecting Members and Staff
We encourage members and staff to take precautions to protect their health and avoid contracting the disease. With this in mind, BHFCU is utilizing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines
to ensure we are helping our employees and members by providing accurate information regarding the public health concerns posed by the virus. We are taking steps to help slow the spread of disease.
- Specific, scheduled cleaning and sanitizing of public areas and workspaces
- Limiting member interaction
- Holding virtual meetings as needed
- Social distancing
- Suspending all work-related travel
- Preventing employees with symptoms of illness from coming to work
The safety of our members, staff and community is our top priority when considering upcoming BHFCU events. Updates will be made to this page as soon as additional information is available.

We take pride in supporting numerous community organizations through our Community Action Team fundraisers and BHFCU donations. The way in which we are able to connect with organizations may be different, but the goal of helping to achieve a positive impact continues during this time. Recent BHFCU donations include:
Fork Real Community Café
A $1000.00 check was given to the Fork Real Community Café the end of February to help cover the cost of meals for those in need.
The Hope Center
A $1,065.00 check was presented to the Hope Center on March 20, 2020, to help fund the operation of the facility. BHFCU employees also donated thousands of supplies, including: toilet paper, shampoo, soap, diapers, laundry soap, and other items listed on their most needed list.
Monument Health Foundation COVID-19 Medical Response Fund – Rapid City
Our April 3, 2020, donation of $5,000 helped attract matching gifts and is being used to secure the resources needed to protect caregivers and patients, and help our community safely fight this virus.
Monument Health Caregivers
A $500 donation was made the beginning of April to help provide healthy snacks for busy caregivers.
Black Hills Works
BHFCU donated two cases (144 rolls) of toilet paper to the residents at Black Hills Works on April 15, 2020.
Children’s Home Society of South Dakota
On April 24, 2020, BHFCU purchased over 280 KN95 masks for $1000 and donated them to the Children’s Home Society. These masks were distributed between the Children’s Home in Rockerville and the Children’s Inn in Sioux Falls.
Capital Area United Way COVID-19 Community Response & Recovery Fund
An April 17, 2020 donation of $1000 will be used to help local families and nonprofit organizations in the Pierre area who are affected by COVID-19.
Hospital and Clinical Caregivers
In April, we donated $200 to support curbside drop-off of dinners for caregivers at Avera in Sioux Falls. A BHFCU staff volunteer will assist with deliveries during the week of May 10, 2020.
In mid-April, 2020, a $538.00 check was sent to The Banquet in Sioux Falls to help feed the local community. Our Sioux Falls team was forced to reschedule their volunteer work for this Fall as they had planned to serve a meal in April at The Banquet. Due to the current need, we chose to send the funds now rather than wait for this fall.
