Black Hills FCU Contributes to New Cancer Care Center
As part of a collaborative community effort, Black Hills Federal Credit Union presented the Avera St. Mary’s Foundation with a $5,000 donation on Thursday to assist in the completion of the Helmsley Center, the new Avera Cancer Institute in Pierre.
Set to open in the fall of 2018, the Center will provide underserved patients in central South Dakota with state-of-the art cancer care, as well as clinic space for primary and specialty care. BHFCU’s donation to the Foundation’s “Building Dreams. Building Hope. Building Here.” fundraising campaign will help ensure local cancer patients have access to a variety of treatment options and services, well into the future.
“The Helmsley Center is an important investment in the future health-care needs of Pierre and the surrounding area,” said Roger Heacock, Black Hills Federal Credit Union President and CEO. “We’re proud to work alongside the Avera St. Mary’s Foundation to improve lives, while providing countless families with the advanced medical expertise and technology they need to navigate one of life’s biggest challenges – cancer.”
In addition to the Foundation’s campaign, Black Hills Federal Credit Union’s donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a grant from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust. In total, the trust has pledged up to $2.5 million in matching funds for the Center, which will be located on the Avera Health campus in Pierre.
