People Helping People - October 2020
At BHFCU, our commitment to improving lives in the communities we serve is as strong as ever. This October, our team found several ways to do positive things across South Dakota. Learn more below.
Share the Warmth Blanket Drive
As a part of the Share the Warmth Blanket Drive, BHFCU employees donated funds to purchase 42 new blankets, pillowcases, and sheets. Items and donations were collected to benefit the Cornerstone Rescue Mission
in Rapid City. The mission provides shelter and ongoing, free meals for the homeless population in the Black Hills region.
BHSSC Wheelchair Scale Support
We presented a $500 check to the Black Hills Special Services Cooperative
to purchase a wheelchair scale for the Sturgis Main Office School. The scale will immediately impact the lives of 5 students who use wheelchairs. The impact will continue to be felt in the future by other students. We are so grateful for the opportunity to help children in the communities we serve!
Rapid City VFW Donation
We are proud to support veterans and recently had an opportunity to donate $200 to the Rapid City VFW. BHFCU has a partnership with the VFW to properly retire American flags in disrepair. Our donation is a small sign of thanks for all that our veterans do for our country and communities.
American Heart Association of South Dakota Jeans Day
Each Friday, BHFCU employees have the option to wear jeans and support a good cause. Our recent Jeans Day fundraised $600 for the American Heart Association-South Dakota
. We are proud to support the nation's oldest and largest organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke.
Storybook Island Holiday Light Display
Every year during the holiday season, Storybook Island in Rapid City comes to life with holiday light displays. A few festive BHFCU staff decorated the “Hickory Dickory Dock Slide” in the park. The effort was a part of preparations for the Christmas Nights of Light
taking place in November and December.
Bad River Pedestrian Bright Lighting Project Donation
Fort Pierre is going to be a little brighter. BHFCU was happy to contribute $1,000 to the Bad River Pedestrian Bridge lighting project. The bridge lights will make it safer and will enhance and beautify the city of Fort Pierre. We look forward to seeing the bridge illuminated in color for community events to come.
Cornerstone Rescue Mission Donation
For the fourth consecutive year, BHFCU was proud to be a Silver Level, $2,500 sponsor of the “Night at the Mission” fundraiser benefiting the Cornerstone Rescue Mission
. Fundraiser proceeds support veteran’s housing and other veteran support programs, as well as the Women and Children’s Home. Although the event was postponed this year, the community need is even greater.
Halloween Costume Contest Benefiting the Children’s Home Society
BHFCU staff got creative and competitive with our annual Halloween costume contest benefiting the Children’s Home Society. A donation to the organization was made for each entry. In combination with money raised from a recent Jeans Day, we donated $800 to the Children’s Home Society.
